Need a hand with StepTracker? Most questions are about Apple Health permissions or widgets — start here, and email us anytime.
Getting started
On first launch, tap Connect Apple Health and allow access. StepTracker grants access per data type, so make sure each one you want is turned on:
- Steps — the core metric.
- Walking + Running Distance — recorded by your iPhone.
- Active Energy — comes from Apple Watch when you wear one. On iPhone-only days, StepTracker shows an estimate from your steps (labeled “Est.”), made more accurate if you allow Body Weight.
Seeing 0 or “—” for steps or distance?
That almost always means read access for that type is off. Open Health → your profile (top-right) → Apps → StepTracker and turn on the data types you want. Reopen StepTracker and your stats will appear. Energy is shown as a step-based estimate (“Est.”) whenever there’s no Apple Watch data, so it won’t sit at 0.
Widgets
Add the StepTracker widget from your Home Screen (long-press → +) or Lock Screen (customize → add widget). Widgets show live step counts and refresh periodically through the day — iOS limits how often any widget can update, so a few minutes of lag is normal. If a widget looks stale, remove it and add it again to reset it.
Setting your goal
Tap the gear on the Today screen to set your daily step goal. Your goal drives the ring, streaks, the calendar heatmap shading, and goal-consistency insights.
Your data
StepTracker keeps everything on your device and never collects or transmits your health data. See the Privacy Policy for details.
